The Convention Centre Dublin to Host International Conference on Ocean Energy 2012

17th January 2012

The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) announced today that it will host the 4th International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) 2012. Set to attract over 750 international experts and world-leading companies in ocean energy, this three-day conference will focus on marine renewable energy and will include presentations from global industry and academic experts in this new marine industry. Scheduled from 17th to 19th of October 2012, the conference will also feature a trade exhibition, which will include demonstrations from top industrial players of the latest technologies in harnessing renewable energy from the sea.

“It is a pleasure to bring this bi-annual conference to Dublin and, with its River Liffey dockside location, The CCD is a great choice for this important event,” said Eoin Sweeney, Head of the Ocean Energy Development Unit, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and Chair of ICOE 2012.“Ocean energy will play a significant role in electricity generation and job creation, and the continued growth of this industry will provide positive economic benefits for Ireland and the rest of the planet.”

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is hosting this important conference and has partnered with the European Ocean Energy Association’s (EU-OEA) and the IEA’s Ocean Energy Systems technology initiative in organising the conference and exhibition. The goal of this global marine energy conference and exhibition is to share recent experiences from research and demonstration efforts. It aims to accelerate development by stimulating collaboration networks between companies and research and development centres.

“We are delighted to be hosting this innovative event,” said Marie Lawlor, Head of Conference Sales, The Convention Centre Dublin. “As a business committed to long-term sustainability, we support marine renewable energy and it is a pleasure to be associated with this growing industry.”

In keeping with the marine theme of ICOE 2012, there will be a number of vessels berthed on the River Liffey, which is adjacent to The CCD, including vessels from the Naval Service and the Marine Institute as well as The Commissioners of Irish Lights’ multi-functional ship, the Granuaile. The vessels will be opened at scheduled times to allow conference attendees view the ships’ features and talk with the crews.
